The Ultimate Everything Shower Routine
Because Every Day Should Feel Like a Spa Day, Right?
In the hustle and bustle of day-to-day life, finding moments of relaxation and self-care can feel like a luxury. However, sometimes the little things transform your daily routine into a moment of bliss, the best example of this being the infamous ‘Everything Shower’. This isn't just about cleansing your body—it's a few minutes of peace and can be a holistic approach to rejuvenating your mind and soul.
Before we get in
This routine does not start in the shower, we are going to set ourselves up for success before we even step in. First things first, throw in a hair treatment. I am a big fan of rosemary oil for hair growth and nourishment, but we all have different hair goals, find what works for you! While that is sitting, I usually take the time to dry brush, a long-time celebrity beauty secret, dry brushing helps stimulate circulation, exfoliate dead skin cells, and promote lymphatic drainage, leaving your skin smoother and more radiant. Make sure you do your research before you start implementing this in your routine, like anything there is a right way and a wrong way to do it.
The last thing I do while the water is heating up is to set the right vibe. This means I’m putting on my favorite playlist and I make sure I light a candle or even better-toss an aromatherapy shower steamer straight in. This is the sort of product that turns a routine into an at-home spa experience. If you have not tried aroma therapy, get on it!
Starting With the Hair
Would it be an everything shower without tackling the hair? To thoroughly wash out the mask and remove any potential build-up I am a fan of the double shampoo and using a shampoo brush. If you are like me and only wash your hair a couple of times a week, you want to make sure you are doing a good job cleaning your scalp.
Make sure after applying conditioner, to clip up your hair, this is especially important if you struggle with body acne, as it ensures you are not leaving residue on your skin.
While that Conditioner is Sitting...
Your conditioner needs to sit for a few minutes, let's utilize this time to exfoliate, especially if we are shaving. Although sugar scrubs are common, and smell delicious, they are not the healthiest for your skin. Swap it out for a chemical exfoliate, we know that using a St. Ives scrub on our face is a cardinal sin, so why are we still sanding away the skin on our bodies? I like this one because it has good active ingredients, and if you use it on your underarms, the glycolic acids kill bacteria, which means goodbye to any odor. For razors I love billie, they are one of the only female-owned razor companies out there, they offer high-quality products without the pink tax. Make sure you are using shaving cream, shave oil, or even your conditioner if you are in a pinch, but we are not dry shaving in 2024!
Double Wash is the Key
We double-cleansed our scalp, now it's time to double-cleanse our bodies. Start with something simple and antibacterial before going in with anything fun. A nice dial bar is a classic for a reason, and for my body wash I love the Sol de Janeiro in the scent Brazilian Play or this one that has a nice peachy scent, they are both perfect for summer. Make sure you swap out your old loofah for clean washcloths or even better a silicone shower scrubber, these don’t hold any bacteria at all making them the most hygienic.
Now let's Lock in that Moisture
Go in with a nourishing moisturizer or body oil while your skin is still damp, this makes it easier for your skin to absorb. I also make sure that I am applying cuticle oil, hand care is something people often overlook!
Wrap it up and we are Done!
Make sure you aren’t being too rough on your wet hair, it can be very fragile. It’s important to use a microfiber towel or even an old cotton t-shirt to towel dry, even more important if you have curly hair. And lastly, while it might be considered doing too much, I think a plush luxurious hotel robe is key for elevating a shower to a spa experience. I love ones like this, nothing beats a fancy hotel robe, so soft and thick there's nothing like it. Now we get to reward ourselves with a night of rotting and sleep!
